Latest News:

7.Oct.2003: Yesterday we received a letter from a Senior Vice President of AMC. He, as well, is a big fan of - get ready! - "Popcorn Bob." Yes, his real name is Bob. He said that, in order to avoid brand confusion, they had to use "Clip" - but he also said that they were considering using Bob as a co-star alongside Clip! I can see it now... The Clip 'n' Bob show!

Consider the petition drive over until further notice. We are now accepting new victims to target...

20.Sept.2003: Yesterday afternoon, the leaders of the APACM marched in to the local AMC theatres and demanded they bring back the popcorn guy. The result? The manager said that he would forward on our letter to headquarters, and that decisions like like were made only on a corporate level. After that, we posted a petition flyer on the J.P. Licks message board. Oh yes, it was also Talk Like a Pirate Day. Aarghh, matey!!!

APACM Overview:

The APACM, or Association for the Preservation of Animated Cartoon Mascots, is a small group of people dedicated to saving the likes of our beloved Popcorn Guy. Founded in early 2003, so far the GCC case is the only one we've taken on, but if we ever succeed with that we'll move on to other poor, unwanted mascots. Hmm... how about Clippit!

Popcorn Guy: Case Overview:

A little less than a year ago, I was at the movies with a friend of mine when I noticed a poster on the wall. It was talking about how the General Cinema Credits program was no more, and that it had been replaced by AMC MovieWatcher. This got me thinking. Was AMC taking over our beloved General Cinema? The next day, I saw a change in the Movies section of the newspaper. Every single General Cinema was now listed as AMC!

A little later in the year, while driving home from school, I noticed workers starting to take down the General Cinema sign... including the picture of the Popcorn Guy! The outraged me, as well as the other founding members of the APACM. How dare they take him down! Now he's been replaced by the far inferior "Filmstrip Man," or "Clip," as AMC calls him (or at least the local AMC manager).

Thus started the Petition to Save the Popcorn Guy. So far we've collected over 550 signatures, but we're not stopping there! We've sent in the first batch to AMC Headquarters, and will continue to contact them about our friend until they've given in! Every 100 signatures, we'll send in another batch.

How can you help?

To add your name to the petition online, simply email your messages of condolence - and you name - to SaveThePopcornGuy@hotmail.com. After you do that, we strongly encourage you to send an email to AMC itself. We're not sure what the best way to do this would be, but if we try enough we're bound to get through. One option is to use their Web Site Feedback form. Or, click here to open a new email message that will be sent to the most likely email addresses to exist. If that link doesn't work, copy and paste the following list of addresses into the "To:" line: contactus@amctheatres.com, info@amctheatres.com, admin@amctheatres.com, feedback@amctheatres.com, comments@amctheatres.com, help@amctheatres.com
