One fateful day, my family set off to
see the new live-action 101 Dalmatians in theaters. It was the first time my
younger brother had ever seen a movie in the theater. One of the previews was
for the new Star Wars Special Editions.
I was immediately hooked.
When A New Hope was re-released, I saw it twice in theaters. I got action
figures, toy Millennium Falcons, and -- a little later -- the movies on tape.
Eventually I also discovered the books, and by now I've read about a hundred of
them.

Star Wars, first released in 1977, has since changed the world.
The Star Wars universe now encompasses five movies and one in development, well
over a hundred novels, countless comics, three TV series, dozens of videogames,
and even many Star Wars "non-fiction" encyclopedias detailing every last turbolaser on an Imperial Mark II Star Destroyer and every last Chiss on Csilla.
