This movie came out of no where and amazed me with its humor and... well... mainly humor. Four and a half stars out of five. A fish (Nemo) gets lost. The dad (Marlin) finds the fish. Wahoo. That was pretty much my impression of Finding Nemo after seeing the trailers. However, once I saw the movie I realized that this was really much more. This movie was absolutely hilarious -- and that humor was about 95% thanks to Dory. Dory suffers from short-term memory loss, and is consistently the funniest thing about this movie. Of course, there are other funny moments too, but nothing compares to Dory. Many thanks to you, o blue one. It's basically because of Dory that I love this movie as much as I do. Still, there's got to be more to it, and I suppose there is. Finding Nemo is also plenty dramatic and action-packed. It's exciting, and the plot is good. My only qualm is that this whole lose fish/find fish trend gets a bit worn out after a while -- I mean, throughout the course of the movie Nemo is lost about four times, Marlin is lost at least once, and Dory is also lost once. But wait -- there's more. Marlin's wife, Coral, is also "lost," and there are plenty of other quick losses -- i.e., losing sight of the fish for a bit. Nevertheless, Finding Nemo is one of the best movies of the year. Four and a half stars out of five. The movie starts out with a harrowing shark attack -- at least I think it was a shark -- in which Nemo's mom Coral and Nemo's hundred or so unborn siblings are killed. Yikes. Time warp! Nemo is now a young little fish about to begin his first day of school. However, trouble strikes again when Nemo goes on his first field trip and encounters monsters so terrible they burned my eyes -- humans. One of the humans takes Nemo, and there's nothing anyone can do to stop him. So, the poor dad Marlin, having lost 100% of his family within the first few minutes of the film, sets off on an adventure to find his son. This is where the fun begins. Right at the beginning of his search, Marlin encounters a blue fish named Dory. Dory suffers from short-term memory loss and is, in a word, hilarious. Dory joins Marlin on his quest, and they're off. Meanwhile, Nemo has been plopped into a fishtank in some Australian dentist's office. With the help of his new friends, he himself plots to escape into the ocean. Back to Marlin and Dory. They have to go to Australia to find Nemo, but along the way encounter dangerous jellyfish, a few sharks, a minefield, and several dozen seagulls intent on having them for breakfast. All in all, it's a harrowing adventure. Will they make it? Why don't you just go rent it! |
